How Does Carolina Career College Compare to Traditional Community Colleges?

Whether you’re a working professional looking to change careers or a recent high school graduate in search of an alternative to a traditional four-year university, you may find yourself researching community colleges.

If you’re in the Triangle area, you might have seen Carolina Career College pop up in some of your searches (maybe it’s even how you found this post!). So, what exactly is Carolina Career College and how does it compare to a traditional community college? We’re glad you asked.

What is Carolina Career College?

In short, we’re a technical college that helps students learn the skills needed to succeed in an Information Technology (IT) career. First, our professionals on staff will help you develop goals and actionable steps to take to help you reach those goals.

Then, you’ll decide which of our IT programs you want to pursue. We’ll be committed to making your transition to the world of IT as smooth as possible every step of the way. Of course, that’s just a quick overview of who we are and what we do, but you’ll learn more about how we’re different from traditional community colleges throughout the rest of this article.

What can you expect from a traditional community college?

Every school is different, but in general, traditional community colleges offer a two-year program where students receive an associate degree upon completion of the program.

Traditional community colleges specialize in general education courses so that students can learn a little bit about a lot of different subjects. Carolina Career College, on the other hand, allows students to focus on learning about IT, so they are equipped with the necessary knowledge to get started with a new career as soon as they graduate.

Typically, when students graduate from a community college, they will need to continue their education elsewhere, to complete their final two years of schooling. This may be at a state school, university, etc.

What sets Carolina Career College apart from traditional community colleges?

Now that we’ve covered what you can expect from attending a traditional community college, here’s a closer look at how Carolina Career College stands out from other schools.

We know that one of the best ways for our students to find success in their IT careers is to find a path that works for their personality and skillset. That’s why we offer four specific programs to help make your transition to an IT career a smooth one. This allows our students to learn everything they can about their chosen IT field to make it easier for them to secure a job once they earn their certification.

Our Information Technology Programs

Here’s a closer look at the four programs available to our students:

Security and Network Infrastructure Specialist
Learn how to repair and maintain desktop and server systems, provide customer support, identify and troubleshoot network security issues, and more.

Systems Administrator
Learn how to implement client computer management policies, understand and manage remote administration, install basic network infrastructure, and more.

Network and Systems Specialist
Learn how to install, configure, manage, and troubleshoot LANs and WANs, monitor network performance, manage wireless networks, and more.

Desktop Support Technician
Learn how to install peripheral computer and network devices, install basic network infrastructure, troubleshoot network issues, and more.

Many of our students are working on their IT certifications while they are still working full-time. As a result, we understand how important it is that they are able to complete their certifications quickly. Most of our students are able to finish their program in just a year, compared to the two or four years it takes to graduate from a community college or university.

Additionally, attending Carolina Career College allows you to work with motivated and like-minded peers, making connections as you all work together toward a common goal of a thriving career in IT.

Attending Carolina Career College is a cheaper option than more traditional four-year schooling. And, as a recognized Military Friendly School, we have a track record of helping veterans better understand their GI Bill education benefits, which can pay up to 100% of tuition costs.

At Carolina Career College, we recognize that we’re only as successful as our students are, which is why we try to make it easier than ever for our students to find work while they are finishing up our programs. In fact, many of our students already have jobs secured by the time they receive their certifications!

Additionally, every single one of our students has access to lifetime Career Services, which includes resume writing, interview coaching, and career placement assistance for life. We truly care about your success from the moment you step foot in our doors through the rest of your life.

Carolina Career College is a fully accredited school by ACCET and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). These accreditations give you peace of mind that you’re attending a school that is educationally sound, up-to-date, of high quality, and effective. As one of our students, you’ll never have to wonder if you can trust the validity of your certifications.
