Companies Recruit Students at Exclusive Tech Career Fair

On Wednesday, October 27th, representatives from well-known tech companies and recruiting firms landed at Carolina Career College’s campus for their highly anticipated Fall Career Fair.  The representatives were excited to meet current students and recent graduates of the school.  On-campus career fairs at Carolina Career College are an exclusive benefit for students.  The setting provides decision makers at companies that are actively hiring, valuable access to well qualified, trained, and certified candidates.

Janell Pennington of Time Warner Cable was on-site during the career fair.  She explained the value of Carolina Career College’s event.  “It’s a little more intimate.  I have more opportunity to speak with students one-on-one versus at a larger career fair, where I may be presenting the same information to ten job seekers at a time.  That gives me more time to make sure the job fit and the culture fit is there.”

Tim Stapleton, a Carolina Career College success story, left his job as a professional chef to get his nights and weekends back and spend more time with his family.  He was hired as a Technical Support Engineer at a cyber security company.  At yesterday’s career fair, Tim was back on campus representing the company as a recruiter.  It’s always great when students come back to our campus seeking to hire students that received the high-quality instructor-led training.

Recruiters have told us they find a military background can be valuable.  Edgar Villeda-Jimenez, a Carolina Career College graduate, says the school, especially the Career Services department, helps with the transition in more ways than one. “They gave me the ability to translate what I learned in the military into interview answers.  They gave me a better way of explaining IT language.  They reinforced the knowledge I learned in the classes.”

Villeda-Jimenez also had a few words of encouragement for those considering an IT career. “New is nothing to be afraid of.”
