Students Gain Real-World IT Experience by Installing Live Lenovo Server
In an effort to give our students more hands-on work experience in a controlled environment, Carolina Career College Computer Learning Center of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill took a trip to Lenovo to replace old RD540 and RD640 servers with the latest RD650 model. Given the responsibility of cable management and installation of Windows Server, students had the opportunity to work in the real word on a real job site – experience only available to them through their enrollment with Carolina Career College.
Led in part by Carolina Career College instructor and Lenovo employee Rob Martin, the students worked throughout the session to install active Lenovo servers, rather than demo machines.
Lucas Biggers, Program Manager for Lenovo’s Worldwide Contact Center Education, said, “By working in a controlled environment like this with supervised instruction, the students will be more confident and prepared when they enter the IT field.”
As for students, they say the training opportunity was “awesome” and the hands-on experience they gained during the event was invaluable. View our photo gallery of the students working on the servers below to see their Carolina Career College knowledge in action.
