Carolina Career College Grad Speaks at IT Career Seminar
Tyler Trimble is exceptional, but not that exceptional.
Sounds kind of mean, doesn’t it?
Tyler, a graduate of Carolina Career College Computer Learning Center of Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, is in fact quite exceptional but it’s not the kind of exceptionalism that is unattainable by others. On the contrary, Tyler visited the Carolina Career College RTP campus on September 22, 2015 and explained to prospective students how he went from working on an oil rig and stocking shelves at Wal-Mart to working at Cisco, one of the world’s largest IT companies.
First, Tyler reminded everyone that anyone can do it – but made sure to point out that it isn’t easy. As many graduates like to say about Information Technology training at Carolina Career College: “You get out of it what you put into it.” While some see IT as an industry with careers available only at tech companies like Cisco, Quintiles, and Red Hat, Tyler pointed out that every company has an IT department or a need for IT services – furthering the point of how in-demand the field is.
In this video, Tyler explains what he learned from the Career Services department at Carolina Career College, including the necessity of selling yourself. “Be who you want to be”, he explained. “Dress the part, like you already have the job.”
